| Christmas Plate & Year
Mug Each year the Desirée china
factory distributes a Christmas plate with a motif from one of H. C.
Andersen´s fairy tales.
The motifs are drawn by different artists such as Mads
Stage, Edvard Eriksen, Gerhard Sausmark and Svend
Otto Sausmark, the latter says, "I´ve grown up with folk tales and I
would wish that I could make folk tales popular. You can draw and tell in many ways, but
I´m a naturalist because I must have experienced and seen what I draw; trees, impressions
and moods of nature, weather conditions and the movements of children and animals".
No Danish artist has like Svend Otto Sausmark
in the last years pleased himself as illustrator of fairy tales, and when he fascinates
grown ups and children with his pictures it is due to not least his own fascination of
fairy tales.
Mother´s Day´s Plates
Whereas you get the motifs from one of H. C.
Andersen´s fairy tales the motifs for Mother´s Day´s plates are from the world
of children where it depicts situations most mothers would recognise.
Behind the motifs such as for instance "Good
Night" from 1972, "On the Way Home" from 1973, "Daisies for
Mother", "Small Friends" from 1977 and "Dreams" from 1978 is one
of the best Danish illustrators, the artist Mads Stage.
He is a very varied artist who has also designed and
decorated many domestic utensils. Mads Stage has got his inspiration and
motifs from the Danish every day life and nature, but also from a lot of trips made around
Europe due to his studies. The plates which have been made with a handmade form of plaster
are painted in the famous blue under-glaze. Each year a new motif is carved in plaster and
when
the year has gone the handmade form of plaster from which the plate has been made is
destroyed.
Vestjysk Plattelager has a varied
assortment of Desireè Christmas Plates, Cups of the Year and Mother´s Day´s Plates.
